War of words: Palestinian, Israeli ambassadors go head-to-head at UNSC meeting

United Nations: Representatives of Israel and Palestine exchanged strong words at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC), at a session in New York on Friday.

The Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour accused those voting against a Kuwait-drafted resolution which requested ‘international protection’ for Palestinian civilians of “extreme mal-intent” that risked “undermining the Council’s credibility and authority.”

The Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon rubbished the claims, saying the proposed resolution was “born in sin”.

The United States vetoed the Kuwait-drafted resolution.

It was also the only country to back its own measure condemning Hamas for the recent violence in the Gaza Strip.
