The United Arab Emirates claimed a record on Thursday with the opening of the world’s longest zip line, measuring 2.83 kilometers (1.76 miles) in length with its launch pad on UAE’s largest mountain peak(over 1,680 meters above sea level) .
Member of the Federal Supreme Council of United Arab Emirates, Muhammad Al Qasimi was the first to try the new zip line following the official certification by Guinness World Records, sources said.
“This is a great achievement for Ras Al Khaimah’s international tourism ambitions,” said Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.
The launch of the zip line is part of Ras Al Khaimah’s campaign to transform the emirate into the region’s adventure and activity tourism hub, reports say.
The zip line takes adventurer on the top of the country’s largest mountain peak, from a launch pad 1,680 meters (5,512 feet) above sea level for nearly three minutes.
