Thousands mourn death of Shujhat Bukhari

Srinagar, June 15: Thousands of mourners participated in the funeral procession of Syed Shujhat Bukhari- the veteran journalist and Editor-in-Chief of English daily “Rising Kashmir” Shujaat Bukhari in his ancestral hometown of Kreeri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, state Public Works Minister Naeem Akhtar, senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz, local journalists and other members from all sections of the society attended the funeral.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was also among the mourners in Kreeri.

Among the separatist leaders, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat were present there.

Witnesses said that a group of people raised slogans demanding punishment to the killers.

The veteran journalist and editor of the Rising Kashmir newspaper was shot dead by unknown assailants outside the Press Enclave in Srinagar on 14 June. Constables Hamid Chaudhary and Mumtaz Awan, the two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) accompanying Bukhari, were also killed.
