Srinagar, June 9: Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) Teachers on Saturday held protest for pending salaries at district headquarters.
The call for protest was forwarded by Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum led by Abdul Qayoom Wani. Reports said that SSA teachers staged protest at every district headquarters including Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam.
Led by Muhammad Shafi Rather, President SSA Budgam District, a large number of teachers assembled in DC Office and raised slogans against the State Government. They alleged that the SSA teachers are without salaries from past couple of months.
They appealed to the State Government to intervene into the matter and issue necessary order for immediate release of their pending salary.
The teachers who protested under the banner ‘J&K SSA teachers’ association’ urged the government to release their pending salaries.
“We are being humiliated by the government as if we are inferior class of teachers. We won’t take this anymore. If our problems are not solved, we will launch a state-wide agitation”, they said.
The protesting teachers said that despite performing their duties in far flung areas they were facing huge problems due to non-release of their salaries. The teachers said they were forced to borrow money from their friends and relatives to meet their expenditures.
“The government talks high about quality education but how can we provide so when we remain mentally disturbed for want of money,” they said.
