SHOPIAN: Amid the shutdown call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on the 5th anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Guru, life remained paralyzed in the valley. Shops and business establishments remained closed in parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar City and public transport was also off the roads.
Clashes were reported in Meminder village of Shopian, where youth pelted stones on government forces, who retaliated with pellets and tear gas shells, during which several youths were injured with pellets, reports say.
Doctors at sub-district hospital Shopian told media reports that a youth was brought to the hospital with pellet injuries in his left eye, he was rushed to SMSH Srinagar for treatment.
However, local sources say that as many as ten persons received injuries from pellet fired by government forces.
A complete shutdown was observed in Shopian district on Thursday against the arrest of two local boys accused of stone pelting.
Meanwhile, militants appeared in Ganawpora village of Shopian and offered a gun salute to slain militants and civilians killed by Indian troops recently.
