Srinagar: Restrictions have been imposed in parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar and Shopian district to foil a march called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) consisting of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz umar Farooq and Muhammad Yaseen Malik, to protest the killings of civilians at the hands of government forces in Shopian district of South kashmir.
Police have already restricted the free movement of people and vehicles in Downtown area of Srinagar and Shopian district.
Authorities have suspended Mobile internet services in parts of south Kashmir and train servies have also been stopped due to security reasons.
Senior seperatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been placed house arrest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tried to break the cordon laid by police outside his Nigeen residence but was stopped by the police to proceed towards Shopian.
While as JKLF chief Muhammad Yaseen Malik managed to reach Shopian and joined people in the Jamia Masjid Shopian to lead the protests. After the arrival of Malik, government forces including J&K police and CRPF sealed the Masjid from all sides to fail the protests.
According to media reports, people are being stopped to go inside the masjid and situation is most likely going to be tense as Quran, Zikr and slogans are being recited from inside the Masjid.
Malik is inside the Masjid and he is going to lead the protests amid high security blanket of J&K Police and CRPF outside the Masjid.
