Srinagar: Days after Shopian civilian killings, Indian Army on Wednesday filed a counter FIR after its Major and other personals were charged with murder case by the Jammu and Kashmir police on the directions of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The army said that the soldiers were forced to open fire in self-defense after seven of its soldiers were injured and the army major mentioned in the FIR was not present at the place where killings took place.
The army said in its FIR that: “Soldiers were forced to open fire in ‘self-defence’ and in the face of ‘ultimate provocation’ after seven of its personnel were injured.”
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti has already ordered a magisterial probe into the incident and police have registered FIR against Indian army personals in the killing of 2 civilians under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 33 (endangering life). An army major and few other soldiers of 10 Garwal have been mentioned in the FIR.
