Srinagar: A policeman was killed on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, and three others injured as militants staged a daring attack outside SMHS hospital in Srinagar to free a Pakistani militant from police custody, police said.
The Pakistani militant escaped as a shootout broke out inside a Srinagar hospital on Tuesday forenoon.
The police official confirmed that a militant, identified as Naveed, fled from the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital, as three policemen were wounded in the firing.
One of the injured policemen succumbed to his injuries.
The incident spread panic in the Srinagar’s government hospital.
As per reports, the militant belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba and was arrested in south Kashmir.
The Pakistani militant was brought to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for treatment.
According to police, the militants attacked and opened fire on the police party accompanying the Pakistani militant outside the SMHS hospital in Kaka Sarai area of the Srinagar city.
A weapon of one of the cops is also reported missing, the official said.
The whole area has been cordoned off and searches are on to track down the militants.
