JAMMU: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday has dropped finance minister Haseeb Drabu from the council of ministers over his remarks that Kashmir “isn’t a political issue” but a society with “social issues.” GK reported.
According to GK sources, the PDP sent a letter to Raj Bhavan informing the governor NN Vohra about the decision.
On March 9, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu while speaking at an event themed ‘Kashmir: the way forward’ in New Delhi, said that Jammu and Kashmir should not be seen as a conflict state or a political problem, but as a society with social issues.
Opposition party, National Conference on Sunday said PDP leader’s “declaration” was a shocking and shameful U-turn by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which, for years, sought support and votes primarily to help in the resolution of the political issue that has claimed thousands of lives and pushed the State into the throes of instability and suffering.
While rejecting Drabu’s comment, PDP’s Sartaj Madni advised all the senior leaders of the party to be careful in their statements and observations while commenting on the basic political philosophy and core agenda of the party.
“The party recognises Jammu and Kashmir as a political issue and ever since its emergence, the party has constantly been pursuing its resolution through reconciliation and dialogue – both at internal and external levels,” Madni said.
