Jammu: Opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress today staged a walkout from Legislative Council over the state government’s alleged failure to make sure grant of National level institutes like IIT,IIM and NIT to Kashmir after passing a resolution in Rajya Sabha.
Answering to a question of NC MLC Showkat Hussain Ganai, Minister of state (MoS) for Education Priya Sethi told the House that foundation of national-level establishments like IIT, IIM, and NIT in various states was a privilege of the legislature of India (GoI).
She said the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has endorsed a NIT in Srinagar and an IIT and an IIM in Jammu. “The out Campus of the IIT Jammu has been authorized for Kashmir division”, She said.
She additionally said the legislature has asked for to the MHRD for authorizing the out grounds of IIT Jammu in the Kashmir division.
Gania said he was “unsatisfied’ by the answer of the minister as asked her whether the Central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi believed in “sab ka saath sab ka vikas”.
“We have passed a determination in this house for request to give the IIT to Kashmir also. Amid the Omar Abduallh government when GoI approved one Central University to Kashmir, the then state government guaranteed to allow of another Central college to Jammu also. Be that as it may, what this administration is doing as such,” he said.
Congress MLA Gulam Nabi Monga blamed the administration for undermining the nobility of the House by its inability to guarantee grant of an IIT in Kashmir.
Sethi tried to appease them, saying that the legislature was seeking after the case with the Center and MHRD.
The members of NC and Congress were not satisfied by the answer, staged walkout from the House.
