JAMMU: On Saturday, National Conference’s legislator Mohammad Akbar Lone raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans to counter BJP MLA’s anti-Pakistani slogans amid the militant attack on army camp in Jammu on Saturday.
National Conference distanced itself from the remarks made by MLA Sonawar-Akbar Lone inside Legislative Assembly and condemned it.
As soon as the proceedings began in House, the legislators condemned the attack and demanded a statement from the government, in meantime Speaker Kavinder Gupta made some remarks which triggered the sloganeering against Pakistan by the BJP members.
The entire Opposition stormed into the Well of the House and demanded an apology from Speaker.
The BJP members intensified anti-Pakistani slogans and in response, NC’s Akbar Lone stood up from his seat and shouted slogans in favor of Pakistan, this forced Speaker to adjourn the House at 10;15 AM.
Akbar Lone while talking to reporters said he raised pro-Pakistani slogans only in a counteraction to BJP and claimed that they BJP hates Muslims.
He added, “The statement of Speaker Kavinder Gupta shows what they have in their mind.”
The National Conference denounced the slogans raised by party member-Akbar Lone, terming the slogans unacceptable.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir-Omar Abdullah endorsed party’s president-Farooq Abdullah’s stand on the issue. Omar via tweet said, “Totally endorse my Party President’s views outlined in these two tweets. The party will say nothing more on this issue”.
National Conference spokesperson-Junaid Azim Mattu said that NC has the clear stand over Akbar Lone’s remarks, saying the party disowns and condemns his remarks.
Junaid via tweet said, “Just spoke to @JKNC_ President Dr. Farooq Abdullah Sahib. Dr. Sahib and the entire party is the unequivocal stand that NC MLA from Sonawari Mr. Akbar Lone has spoken out of turn and his slogans in the Legislative Assembly are completely unacceptable to the party.”
