SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader and Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, paid rich tributes to Shaheed Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Shaheed Mohammad Afzal Guru on their anniversaries, and reiterated his demand for the return of mortal remains of the two Martyrs, Maqbool Bhat, and Afzal Guru.
Geelani in a statement to GNS, while demanding for the return of mortal remains of both Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru-who are buried in the Tihar Jail, Delhi, said New Delhi is unwilling to this demand and are violating all the modes of morality and constitution, adding that in this way its (India’s) claim of largest democracy in the world is getting badly exposed.
Hurriyat (G) chairman said,
“Shaheed Mohammad Maqbool Bhat has a special status in the freedom struggle of Kashmir and if he can be termed as the first soldier of the struggle then the Shaheed Mohammad Afzal Guru’s ‘last letter’ became a new landmark of the freedom struggle and set a new trend.”
Geelani said Afzal’s last letter depicts that he was a spiritual person, adding that, both are heroes of Kashmiris who are proud of them.
The best way of paying tributes to Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru is that the nation should not forget these brave sons of Kashmir-who had sacrificed their present for the future of the nation, he said.
Moreover, Geelani said Kashmiris will not setback until the mortal remains of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru are not returned back to their family.
