NEW DELHI: The former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday pitched for equitable sharing of “power and development” among all three regions of Jammu and Kashmir to find a lasting solution to the state’s problem. ToI reported.
Singh was speaking at the book launch, ‘Karan Singh – Jammu and Kashmir (1949-1967)’, at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) here.
Manmohan Singh said that Jammu and Kashmir cannot have a long-lasting solution unless the equal sharing of power and developments of all the three regions of the state – Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh – is served.
“(The problems of) Jammu and Kashmir is a complex subject … There cannot be a lasting solution to the problem of Jammu and Kashmir unless the equitable sharing of power and developments of all the three regions of the state – Kashmir, Ladakh, and Jammu – is attended to,” the senior Congress leader said.
Singh said it was an “important book on an important subject” and deals with the history of Jammu and Kashmir from 1949 to 1967. He said it also highlights the important role played by Karan Singh, the son of the last ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh, in shaping the events and history of Jammu and Kashmir in its multi-facet aspect.
