A complete shutdown was observed in Kupwara on the anniversary of ‘Kupwara Massacre’
Kupwara: On the anniversary of ‘Kupwara Massacre’ that took place on 27th Jan 1994 in which 27 civilians and 3 local policemen were killed by Indian troops, a complete shutdown was observed in the district and people joined protests, chanting slogans demanding justice to the families of martyrs, removal of AFSPA and end to “state terrorism”.
MLA Langate Engineer Rasheed reached Kupwara town to offer prayers and tributes to the martyrs of the Massacre. As Rasheed joined the protests along with his activists and colleges ,the local police and CRPF stopped Rasheed and arrested him before reaching the martyrs graveyard.
According to statement, Rasheed said that “army by referring AFSPA and objecting to the investigation of Kupwara massacre is really admitting to the blame and the world group must understand that how Kashmiris are being denied equity by taking the shelter of draconian, undemocratic and uncivilized laws like AFSPA”.
