Srinagar: Apparently reacting to the remarks of Deputy Chief Minister who said that people should demand CBI inquiry into Kathua rape and murder case, People’s Democratic Party senior leader and R&B Minister, Nayeem Akhtar Saturday said that the matter should not be politicized and communalized.
“It’s wrong to raise fingers on Jammu and Kashmir Police who have suffered so much and are sacrificing their lives while combating militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. They are good for some people when they fight militants and bad when they investigate any rape incident. Let me clear it, investigation doesn’t mean that the accused should be punished. It is the job of court to decide ultimate punishment for the accused,” Aktar told news agency CNS at his Gupkar based official residence.
He appealed those who are trying to politicize the Kathua rape and murder case to have faith in judiciary. “The way some elements are trying to politicize the incident and are defending the accused is very unfortunate. By doing so, they are disturbing the atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir and we all know our state is very sensitive and we are confronting many challenges,” Akhtar said.
Nayeem Akhtar said that it is the job of court to decide about the future of any accused. “We have heard victims approaching court but never heard that accused are being defended for sake of politics. If this is the case, then every accused will tomorrow run a campaign to save himself. The matter is in the High Court and even the Supreme Court has to take a call on the issue. I am sincerely appealing all to have faith in judiciary,” he said.
While responding to a question, Akthar said that: “Our President and Prime Minister have condemned this ghastly incident. Whole world condemned this incident. Let us have faith in judiciary. Police have completed the investigation and now it is the job of the court to see who is accused and who is innocent,” Akhtar said. (CNS)
