Deepak Khujaria, a 28-year-old SPO posted at Police Station Heera Nagar, has been arrested by a Special Investigation Team of the Crime Branch for the incident.
JAMMU: In a measure breakthrough in Kathua rape and murder incident, a special police officer (SPO) has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir police for his alleged involvement in kidnapping and killing of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu division’s Kathua district, earlier in January, police sources said.
The body of the girl was recovered from the Rassana forest on January 17, week after she went missing while grazing horses, the issue had stormed the assembly, promoting Mehbooba Mufti-Jammu and Kashmir chief minister to order a probe in the incident.
Additional Director General of Crime Branch, Alok Puri told PTI, “We have arrested SPO Deepak Khajuria for his involvement in the case of kidnapping and killing of the minor girl.”
With the arrest of SPO Deepak Khajuria, the number of arrests has gone up to two in the Kathua rape and murder in ident, earlier a juvenile was arrested in the case.
Khajuria along with an underage boy, raped and killed the 8-year-old Aasif Bano after holding her captive for a week, police said.
Reports say Deepak Khajuria has confessed to his crime after he being confronted with the strong evidence, adding that the motive behind the crime was to instill the fear among the nomad community.
