Karan Nagar Gunfight update: Two LeT Militants killed after 30-hour-long gunfight

SRINAGAR: Two militants killed in the encounter that broke out in Karan Nagar area yesterday, mopping operation underway.
Two militants were killed after government forces launched a final assault in the under-construction building in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar area after the last 24 hours, the identify and outfit affiliation of the militants are yet to be ascertained, a police official said.

“While one was gunned down as he came out of the under-construction building to get into another adjacent building, the other was trapped and killed inside the building that they took refuge in on Monday,” a police officer said.
The encounter between security forces and militants which began on Monday, after they tried to sneak into CRPF camp, resumed this morning.

On Monday, militants carrying bags and AK-47 rifles had taken shelter inside an uninhabited building near a CRPF camp in Karan Nagar opened fire after forces launched searches in the area.
Sources say,  hiding militants were firing steadily at the forces, who were responding with grenades and bullets.
“In the operation, Quick Action Team (QAT) of CRPF and Special Operation Group of police were on job, sources said.
All the roads leading to Karan Nagar were seized, while curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Srinagar to prevent protests.
