Israeli jets strike Gaza after the downing of its F-16 fighter jet

JERUSALEM: Israel conducted airstrikes in Gaza for a second straight day after the downing of its F-16 fighter jet. Israel Defense Force (IDF) blamed Iran for the attack, alleged for supplying unidentified attackers with the weapon.

The Israeli military said its warplanes targetted a Hamas position in Southern Gaza, late Saturday in response to the shelling carried out by the yet unidentified militants on Friday.
Israeli defense minister Avigdor Lieberman blamed Tehran for the incident .
“Iran has supplied these missiles to many groups,” Lieberman told Israeli media, adding that an initial examination of the shells fired confirm they are from Iran.

The IDF also accused Iran of instigating the Palestine-Israeli conflict through its proxies.
“The Iranian regime continues to risk the safety of the residents of the Gaza Strip and puts them in grave danger. Wherever the Iranian regime operates or is involved, it only wreaks havoc and destruction,” the IDF tweeted after the attack.
At least 14 Palestinians have been killed and some 3000 injured as  Israeli forces continue to fire live ammunition and rubber bullets to target protesters in fresh clashes.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured his country will defend itself ‘against any attack’ after it carried its largest air-strikes against sites in Syria in decades, the BBC News reported on Sunday.

Netanyahu said on Saturday, “This is both our right and our duty and we will continue to do so as much as necessary.
Netanyahu warned that Israel’s policy to defend itself against “any attempt to harm our sovereignty” was “absolutely clear”.
On Saturday, Israel said it carried out a “large-scale attack” against the Syrian Aerial Defense System and Iranian targets in Syria, in response to the downing of the F-16 fighter jet, adding that the jet had crashed after the formation it was flying in was targeted by Syrian ground anti-aircraft fire.
However, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Bahram Qasemi denied any role in shooting down the Israeli jet.
