NEW DELHI: Two students from Kashmir studying at the Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh were allegedly assaulted by a group of 10-15 men on Friday.
The assault took place at around 02;30 PM, when the duo- Aftab and Amjad were returning back after offering Friday prayers. Students of the University said that the attack on duo was unprovoked and the duo was assaulted because of their Kashmiri identity.
Their batch matches also accused police of not registering a complaint earlier, an FIR was only registered after the university supervisor intervened in the issue.
Police have registered an FIR under section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
DSP Mahendargarh however, refuted any “Kashmir angle” behind the attack. “The students were not targeted because of their identity,” he said.
