In an unbecoming incident, J&K Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh on Thursday openly defended his other two BJP ministers who earlier participated in a rally organized by Hindu Ekta Manch, a fringe right-wing outfit, in support of accused persons in rape and murder charges of year old child.
The two ministers Lal Singh and Prakash Chander Ganga who handle the ministry of Forestry and Industries and Commerce respectively, addressing the rally, made inflammatory speeches against Muslims and accused JK police of partiality in investigating the case.
The rally was organized against the arrest of Hindu person accused of executing the horrific incident of rape and murder of an eight-year-old Muslim child.
The duo demanded that the case be handed over to CBI while calling the JKP Crime Branch ‘ Jungle Raj”
Defending the ministers Nirmal Singh said that they had sought an explanation from them about their reportedly inflammatory speeches but both denied the report and said that they have not spoken against any community.
However, in a video recording of the rally which has gone viral, both the ministers and MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia can be clearly heard trying to provoke the rally.
Minister of forests, Lal Singh has not provoked the people for the first time but is a serial communal pricker, in 2016, he had threatened the delegation of Gujjars by warning them “have you forgotten 1947?”, reminding them of the massacre of Jammu Muslims in 1947.
The Deputy CM accused the crime branch of harassing innocent people. “The investigation should not harass the innocent and the perpetrators of the crime must be dealt with as per the provisions of law,” he said. He, however, claimed that the party’s state unit would follow the BJP leadership’s suggestions.
