NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested an Indian Air Force Group Captain accused of spying, who was allegedly seduced on social media platform-Facebook by two agents of Pakistani ISI and used WhatsApp to transfer sensible documents to them. HT reported on Friday.
Arun Marawaha (51) was produced before the court on Thursday that sent him to police custody for five days. Marwaha shared information and sensitive documents with two Pakistani agents who assumed to be women and chatted with him on Facebook. The fake accounts were in the names of Kiran Randhawa and Mahima Patel, reported by Delhi Police Special Cell officer privy to the investigation.
According to Special Cell’s officer, Marawah used his phone to capture photos of the sensitive documents pertaining to the IAF headquarters and then shared them via WhatsApp.
Officer said,“They chatted regularly on WhatsApp… and also allegedly exchanged intimate messages. The ISI agents also honey-trapped him after obtaining some of his nude pictures,” adding that after gaining Marwaha’s trust, the “Pakistani agents asked the officer for classified documents”.
Special Cells’ commissioner M Oberoi said Marawah was arrested by the IAF on January 31 after his ‘suspicious activities’ and AIF had approached the New Delhi Police to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the accused is being questioned at the Special Cell’s headquarter in Lodhi Colony area of South Delhi and has confessed of having access to many secret documents and plans due to his posting at the IAF headquarters in Delhi, sources say.
