All roads leading to Karan Nagar area of Srinagar have been sealed in view of an ongoing gunfight in the area. One constable has been killed in the gunfight.
SRINAGAR: Gunfight raged in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar on Monday morning after militants fired at the CRPF men during cordon and search operation (CASO).
Two militants who had taken shelter inside an uninhabited building near a CRPF camp in Karan Nagar opened fire after forces launched searches in the area.
CRPF spokesman Rajesh Yadav said that an alert sentry had earlier noticed the suspicious movement of the militants.
Two militants carrying bags and AK-47 rifles were seen by the sentry approaching the camp of the 23 battalions of CRPF in Karan Nagar area around 4.30 am, they said.
Later, searches were launched around the camp, which is located near the SMHS hospital, Srinagar and heavy firing was going on.
According to the CRPF official, one constable who had been injured during the encounter, identified as Mujahid Khan of 49 Bn succumbed to his injuries at the site of encounter.
