Body of third militant recovered from Balhama encounter sight

Two militants were killed there on Thursday night after they got trapped in a house at Waripora Balhama in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

Srinagar: Police Saturday said that it recovered the body of the third militant from Balhama encounter site.

There were reports that the third militant Hamas Bhai from Pakistan had managed to escape from the encounter site, however, his body was recovered today by government forces.

On Friday, Government Forces had laid a cordon around the encounter sight, but it was lifted after nothing was found there during the search operation.

A police handout said that with regard to militant firing at Khonmoh area in the outskirts of Srinagar city on 15 March 2018 in which 2 dead bodies of militants were recovered.

The police started a sanitisation operation in which the area was to be cleared of any unexploded shells/mines after the encounter ended.

In this process, the teams of police and other SFs including the bomb disposal squad were put for job.

While concluding the search and sanitation of the operation site, police recovered the body of the third militant identified as Hamas, a non-local militant.

Pertinently the area was sealed to carry out further searches on cooling of rubbles immediately after the encounter ended to ensure no damage is caused by an explosive material left over at the encounter site.

In this connection, Police have already registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation is on. (CNS)
