40 Percent jobless youth in J&K : Minstry of Labour and Employment

SRINAGAR:In Lok sabha ,replying ta question from UP MP to give figures of un employment in country, it was revealed by the GoI that about 40% of youth,in the age group of 15-30 are jobless in J&K which is much higher than national average.

Putting out the figures, Union minister of Labour and employment said that out of 1000 persons in the age group of 15-17 years, 555 persons are unemployed, while in the age group of 18-30 years, 228 persons are jobless out of 1000 persons.

Interestingly ,the question was put forward by an MP from UP while J&K MPs while refrained to asking.

The reply further stated that in the age group of 15-17 years is 130 persons out of 1000 persons. In the age group of 18-19 years, it stands at 102 persons out of 1000 persons.

“The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above (per 1000) in Jammu and Kashmir is calculated as per the employment-unemployment survey,” the minister stated.

The MP further wanted to know the measures being taken by Govt to address the issue,to which Govt said “Ministry is implementing the national career service (NCS) project to provide a variety of employment related services information on skill development courses etc. These services are available online on the National career service portal (www.ncs.gov.in). The services under NCS Project are accessible establishment of model career centres in employment exchanges and institutions of repute to provide variety of employment related services using technology. The Government has approved 03 Centres in the State of Jammu and Kashmir for the establishment of Model Career Centres namely at Samba Employment Exchange, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Leh and NIELIT, Srinagar.”

However,according to the Govt of J&K ,various district employment exchanges have registered only 88,040 youth who are jobless. But the number goes much higher when the actual figure is put forh.

Those who are registered include 3321 engineers,185 doctors and 11 PhD degree holders. Besides 17,351 PGs and 6586 UGs.

Earlier former finanace miniter Haseeb Drabau has said that they are initiating a procees to know the actual figure of un employment youth in J&K but nothing has happened till date.
