Neither forces nor militants will achieve their goal in Kashmir, says Indian Army Chief

New Delhi: In a very significant statement, army chief Bipin Rawat has said that youth of valley who are radicalized and have picked up the gun will realize that the gun was not the solution to the Kashmir problem. Because by use of force neither militants nor the security forces would achieve their goals.

He said that the only way to normalize the situation of Kashmir which has seen violence for decades now is peace.

Speaking on the 70th foundation day of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, he said
“There is hope that the situation in Kashmir will improve…it’s not gone wrong. There are some youths in Kashmir who have strayed and have been radicalized. They think they can achieve their goal through guns.

“But the time is not far when even they will be convinced that neither the forces nor the militants will be able to achieve their goal. We have to together find a way to peace and we will be successful in that,”

He denied that the situation in the valley has deteriorated, he said “It is wrong to say that situation in Kashmir has deteriorated. The atmosphere is vitiated but the situation has not deteriorated,”

The Army chief urged that the concept of ‘Kashmiriyat’ has to be brought back to improve the prevailing conditions.

He said that youth must be made aware of the fact that the real essence of Kashmiriyat is ‘Unity In Diversity’

“To revive that Kashmiriyat, we need to get our act together. It is not difficult. We have to get our act together, sit down together, work together and make sure that we all get united and bring about peace,” he added.
